MICROBIOLOGIST TURNS AWARD WINING COMIC ARTIST.

Despite the disparity between courses and what students intend to study in school and work with, professionally after graduation really differs, reverse was the case in the story
Ayodele dreammaker  Elegba a well-trained microbiologist who was deep rooted in it, resurfaced and opted for his artistic venture which he had always longed for right from his childhood days

BY|:EMEGHA PHEBEAN
My name is Emegha Phebean reporting for Rcmc Media.

Can we meet you sir?
My name is Ayodele Elegba but many may know me as the Dreammaker. I graduated from the Yaba College of Technology in 2004 as a Microbiologist. It was while i was serving at a General Hospital in Nassarawa state that i realized how much i hated the site of blood and came to the conclusion that the science may not be for me anymore. Though i was born into a family of artists, my father a painter and my mum an artist and writer, i wanted to be an inventor at a young age because i was very good with my hands.

When did you do your first artwork?
I did my first portrait of Fela Anikulapo Kuti when i was just 7 years old and i have continued drawing ever since though i had to take a break from it to focus on School.

When did you venture into comics as a professional?
My professional foray began in 1999 when a friend told me that there was a guy who made comics in Yabatech. I was curious, i had made comics in my secondary school days and i was glad to finally meet someone who shared the same hobby. I was later learnt that Ibrahim Ganiyu was actually thinking of playing a bigger game. He was gathering a team of Artists, writers and Colorists to form a crew he called Imperial Creation Studios. At the time my art was no longer as strong as it used to be and i could not compete with the likes of Abolaji Alausa, Solomon Osafile and Samuel Achema who were doing great stuff then. So i settled to write for the crew.
And not long after Dark Edge Comics came in.

What where the challenges you faced?
Challenges i faced. Well i was so passionate about being the best i could be at the time. Before i ventured into comics i had written some Scripts for some Nollywood films and i wanted to act as well but i never really got the chance. So when the opportunity to do comics came i jumped at it and gave it my best. The only challenge i would say i faced then was doing comics and getting good grades studying Microbiology. It was so tough but i thank God i made it.

What would you be doing if not comics/arts presently?
If i was not doing comics i would be in Film. Something i still will be going into very soon. I have a couple of short films i am currently working on and i know very soon they will see the light of day.

What is your present professional concert/achievements?
My first professional gig as a comic writer came with the publishing of the Dark Edge Comic.
A comic that revolutionized the Nigerian Comic industry.

Your watchword to upcoming artist like you?
Put God first, be steadfast and focused, success is yours.
